Most Gunnison Valley drivers treat the 10-mile stretch of Highway 135 between Gunnison and the Taylor Canyon turnoff as connective tissue. A place you pass through on the way to a trailhead, a ski lift, or a dinner reservation somewhere else. That was a defensible read a year ago. It is not a defensible read this summer. Almont in July 2026 is in the middle of the biggest hospitality reshuffle it has seen in a generation, and the river schedule that governs everyone's afternoons has shifted with it.
